Consider the similar issue with calcium mega-supplementation. Women are being exhorted to take huge dosages of supplemental calcium, on the theory that dumping calcium carbonate into the physiology will somehow strengthen a woman’s bones during and after menopause.
Adding calcium carbonate to the diet, which is the exact chemical equivalent of eating chalk, is a curious idea to begin with, but what are the possible downsides to such mega-supplementation? First, in many cases o f arthritis you will find tiny chemical crystal in the joints.
These crystal may be irritants of sources of pain, and they are comprised of…. that right, calcium. So, the very thing people are taking to minimize osteoporosis may be actually exacerbating. And are mega doses of chemical calcium absorbed and used by the body?
Research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine showed a stark contrast between calcium taken as part of the normal diet and mega dose calcium in the form of chalk.
The more calcium the women took in the form of chalk, the higher the incidence of kidney stones; the more calcium in the form of food, the lower the incidence of kidney stones. Such is the wisdom of whole food.
Forgive the analogy, but the story of Goldilocks comes to mind. The body, like Goldilocks, does not thrive on things too hot, too cold, too hard or too soft, but instead benefits from “just right.” The therapeutic dosage of “just rightness” is the goal and more often that not that proper balance comes from using the natural tools of food and herbs.
